The 8th Annual "Art on the Porches" festival is a community/cultural event on Saturday, June 14 from 11:00am to 5:00pm.
Artists will show and sell their work on Ruskin Ave in the historic Strathmore Neighborhood and the block will also be closed to traffic for a street-faire festival that includes musicians, dancers, theatre, a free Hands-On Art Center, and delicious food.
This year’s entertainment line-up includes SAMMY Award winning musicians Arty Lenin & Gary Frenay, Los Blancos, The Tipp Hillbillies, highly acclaimed jazz trumpeter Nick Frenay, Chaos Productions, William Nicholson and the Herbs, belly dancers, Irish step dancers, poetry reading, and much more.
The free Hands-On Art Center provides an opportunity for kids to make their own art. There will also be storytelling and dance.
The event is sponsored by the Greater Strathmore Neighborhood Association, with a grant from the Gifford Foundation. For more info visit www.artontheporches.com or www.myspace.com/strathmoreartontheporches

HOT Trend: Strathmore home address plaques.
Have you seen the new address plaques that many neighbors have placed on their homes? These plaques were a joint effort between the Greater Strathmore Neighborhood Association and Home HeadQuarters, Inc. Over 150 plaques have been ordered by neighbors. What a great way to show your neighborhood pride and our sense of community! You can find a March 2008 Post Standard news article written about the address plaques in the Strathmore News section of this site.
Happy Halloween 2007! The 3rd annual Strathmore Childrens Halloween Parade brought in over 40 young kids and their families. Luck was on us, as the only dry spell of the day was during the time of the parade and treats & cider in Onondaga Park.

Parks Run 2007!
Parks Run is a 4 mile run/walk that goes through Onondaga Park, the historic Strathmore neighborhood, and around the Woodland Reservoir recently on Sunday, October 14. It was a good turnout, the weather was decent, the park and neighborhood looked great, and a lot of people had a lot of fun. Congratulations to the 1st place male finisher, Kevin Zych (15 Years old!), with a time of 25:34 and the 1st place female finisher, Lisa King in 30:10. Jake Copich, (only 13 years old!), was the 1st Strathmore neighbor to cross the finish line and placed 9th overall. Abby Crain was the 1st female Strathmore runner for the 2nd straight year.
What a great day it was for the 7th Annual Art on the Porches event and the Strathmore By-the-Park Homes Tour in the Strathmore Neighborhood on June 16th!
Hundreds of people viewed 5 historic homes next to or nearby Onondaga Park. They were able to see the well-preserved architecture and charm not found in newer built homes. And over a thousand people to came to view the art, enjoy the music and dancing, and sample the food at this year's Art on the Porches on Ruskin Ave. It was truly a great day in the city. Special thanks to Charlene Bozzi for coordinating this year's Art on the Porches, to all of the volunteers & sponsors that helped support these events, and to everyone that came and had a good time.
Photos will be coming but you can also check out www.artontheporches.com or the Art on the Porches myspace page developed by Strathmore resident Dave Kane for pictures of past events.
