Welcome to the Strathmore Neighborhood!

Strathmore is a city neighborhood in the southwest corner of Syracuse, NY. It is conveniently located minutes from Downtown & Armory Square, the Zoo, Syracuse University, and the Destiny Mall. Most of the neighborhood homes were built in the 1920’s and 1930’s, but you will find some that date back to the early 1900’s and a few that were recently built. Recently, a part of the Strathmore neighborhood that was originally known as “Strathmore By-The-Park” (about 200 homes bounded by Wellesley Rd to the east, north by Strathmore Dr, west by S. Geddes St, and south by Glenwood Ave) was designated as a Federal and New York State Historic District. This section joins Onondaga Park, the Onondaga Highlands–Swaneola Heights section, and a handful of individual homes in the neighborhood on the National Register of Historic Places.

Strathmore features elegant, historic homes mixed with affordable middle class housing. It is a haven for people from all walks of life, like lawyers to housepainters to teachers, who appreciate a liveable city atmosphere, where parks, schools, and churches are all within walking distance, and community is something you live (not just read about). Preservation of this lifestyle is a common thread between diverse neighbors. By thumbing our nose at the lemming-like mindset to buy a McMansion home in the ‘burbs we are able to have homes with character and charm, streets with sidewalks, and we don’t have to spend all of our time chauffeuring our kids because their friends and activities can be found right here in the neighborhood. Bravo!!
